#SaveKidsLives Call for Help

As a mom, there are often times I find myself wondering 'What did they do when they had kids' talking about my own parents.  Or even, 'We didn't have that when I was a kid!'  One that sticks out the most was when I was a new mom for the first time with Boston and it was before I got the opportunity to review amazing baby products with this blog.  So, here I was - pregnant and had no clue on what kind of car seat to get.  All I knew was that they were EXPENSIVE!  And the more expensive they were - they safer they were was my key thinking.  Pretty logical, right?  I remember my mom saying that when she had kids there wasn't any child restraints.

Fast forward to today - and they are in lockdown in the back seat.  It's not perfect but there really are some amazing changes in modern technology that has afforded me some amazing car seats.  Not to mention, I live in the US where it's ILLEGAL to not put your kids in one.  Even then, statistics show that more than 500 kids die a DAY in traffic accidents.  That's over 180,000 kids a year.  That's just TOO MUCH!

In the United States we keep taking proper measures to ensure safety of our kids.  But not every country has the standards we have (that even then aren't 100% perfected.)  The UN Global Road Safety Week is coming up and lawmakers are getting together with hopes of making road safety better for kids globally.  Road traffic injuries are the leading cause of children ages 5-19.  You know what that tells me?  One, it's not the ones that are strapped in tight (babies, toddlers) - it's the kids that grow out of their seats that are in harms way.  Hmmmm.

Do you know what percent of the world's population is covered by adequate laws that address behavioral risk factors?  ONLY 7%.  We're talking safety belts, child restraints, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, driving too fast, using cell phones & texting while driving.

ONLY 7%!!

The only way we can change in the world is by taking action.  So this is definitely a great beginning in awareness of road safety with kids.  I encourage you to sit down with your own kids and talk about safety.  Sign the petition because we all know it's not the kids who are held responsible - it's the parents.  Educate your families on ways to be safe.  Create incentives for your kids to offer to YOU when they catch you on your cell phone!!  I know, I literally have countless times done that.  It makes me so mad at myself.  My brain is in another world and I'm texting with my kids in the car.  NOT ACCEPTABLE.  EVEN WHEN MY KIDS AREN'T IN THE CAR BECAUSE THERE ARE PEOPLE AROUND ME!!  It's something I'm trying to really focus on.  I got lazy over the past few years.  And being apart of this campaign has reminded me that there is no excuse.  It can all wait.

Sign the petition yourself with your kids. Download and print out their safety sheet and take a "SAFIE" (selfie) with your kids and share on social media with the tag #SaveKidsLives.  Visit the Scholastic site with info for parents on how we can make a difference.

#RealMomGiftGuide Kisses for Kyle Recap

#RealMomGiftGuide Kisses for Kyle Recap

REALMOMBIGGIVE

I don't really even know how to start here.

It's taken me an entire day to put my head to my computer to share with you the heartfelt love I shared yesterday with Kisses for Kyle Foundation and their community of amazing families.

You see, I've had quite the crazy year.  And the past two months I've been running like the wild west.  Bouncing from city to country to island to snow, sun, rain.... INSANITY to say the least.  And I am ashamed to admit that on more than one occasion I doubted myself and wondering 'what on Earth am I doing?'  Oh, I can tell you there are a solid 4-5 instances this year that I found myself standing in the middle of the room asking myself the same questions.

What was I thinking?  What if I it's not enough?  Is it worth it?  What do my kids look like again?

And I can tell you within 24 hours post the event or experience where I felt that - the biggest sense of gratitude overtakes me.  And today has been no exception.

I know I'm not perfect.  I know that I am not the smartest person or most talented or funniest.  I know that I've made mistakes in life that were my fault.  But you'll never find me denying the truth whether it's right or wrong - the truth is always there.

You see, in 2008 when I started this blog thing, I knew that the biggest thing I was going to miss from being on the radio was being able to use my platform as a mouth piece for things bigger than myself.  And to think that after years of not being in radio, I was able to pull off the BEST charitable event I've ever been apart of?  Makes me know that what happened in 2008 was meant to be.  There was going to be something bigger than myself & without trying, I succeeded.  Whatever that success may be.

#CyberChic on CyberMonday

This week,  I attended a great party to celebrate Cyber Monday. What a great way to spend a day of shopping than seeing some chic items to put on your Christmas list.

The event was hosted at Dave & Buster’s who donated yummy lunch and the location. Speaking of food,  Whole Foods brought a live cheese monger and swag bags. Swag bags were stuffed with Medifast waterbottles and pedometers, WashdropsFake Bake self-tanner, and Bic Shave & Trim razors. Additional raffle prizes were provided by PlanToys, The Kimmel Center, Fake Bake and more!

Now to the fab stuff!

Like these stacks of Joseph Nogucci jewelry! Something for everyone and every outfit!

Another great find were the Emilie M handbags! These bags are luxurious but are all under $100! These are perfect for any woman on your list this year.

Can I tell you how excited I was that I WON???  I didn't get my favorite one as I was too busy talking that someone else grabbed it - lol - but the one I got from Emilie M handbags is just delightful.  LOVE it!

The event wasn't just about shopping and swag. This was about charity as well.  Goodwill.orgChampions4Kids and Alex’s Lemonade were featured to highlight the amazing work they are doing in our communities! Goodwill is providing tons of job training in our communities. Champions4Kids is partnering with Matt’s Stocking this holiday – attendees brought stocking stuffers to donate to this incredible organization that supports families that have lost children.

We are very focused on charity and giving back at Real Mom Media so it was a thrill to be able to get out for a few hours and enjoy lunch with some amazing women at Dave & Busters in Plymouth Meeting.

And the fact that I learned a lot and brought home a handbag?  SCORE!
