Hurricane Irene Part 2

Wow.  I'm sitting here with my inlaws who were suppose to fly out tomorrow mid-day.  They moved to today, this afternoon, but found out last night it was CANCELLED!

Now mind you...I love my mother in law and her husband.  They are super great people.

But I know how I feel when I'm suppose to fly out and get stuck somewhere.

It's 8pm and the brunt of the storm hasn't even hit yet.

I feel bad about my old place.

When my husband and I moved to Philadelphia we lived at The Riverwalk that had a gorgeous view over the Schuylkill River.

Um.  Well.  The River has already hit the crest.  And the rain hasn't even began.

The poor Riverwalk was hit with a VERY scary fire 3 years ago..maybe even close to the day.  I was there with my then 3 month old son.  We were playing with friends who still lived there.  Our dogs were best buds.

We were all out back on the lawn when the new condo building, The Londonbury literally went up in flames!  In SECONDS.  I'll never forget it.  I grabbed my baby, yanked the dog and ran like hell.  You could FEEL the heat coming off the building.

I got to my car and by the time I opened my hatch and put the dog in the back I felt the heat take over my body.  I tossed Boston in his seat, didn't even buckle him up and all I could think about was how I was going to get my baby OUT of there.  I took off like a bat out of hell.  And within minutes...I kid you not...that place was up in flames.  You can relive the video and see the story here.

Needless to say...those folks seriously suffered.  A LOT.

One of my friends there had been saving up for months to ask his girlfriend to marry him.

And every dollar he saved was in a secret spot in his apartment.

And it burnt to the ground.

Including his secret stash.

I know what you're thinking.  Why the HELL did he not have it in a SAFE or a bank!?!?!  Great question.  But that part isn't what matters.  He's a great guy.  And he had awesome intentions.  But he did lose everything and had to start all over.

What does this have to do with Hurricane Irene, you ask?

Cause there is a BIG chance that the river will once again take over this apartment building.

Water.  Fire.

And also....

Many lives will be changed forever from this attack of nature.

Check out this time lapsed video that NASA took of the hurricane.

Mother Nature is NOT happy with the east coast right now...
