Bert & Ernie Not Gay
After years of speculation..(I mean come on. We've all heard the rumor sometime or another!)
Bert & Ernie are NOT gay.
Sesame Street finally put the rumor to rest!
I guess the latest rumors were that the roommates' were getting married?!?!?!
"Bert and Ernie are best friends. They were created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves. Even though they are identified as male characters and possess many human traits and characteristics (as most Sesame Street Muppets™ do), they remain puppets, and do not have a sexual orientation."
Now-I have to admit when I heard years ago that they were gay...I thought there could have been a possibility.
But-I also have to say - I'm glad they aren't. (OH BOY. HERE COMES THE BACKLASH IN MY COMMENTS.)
Now mind you, I'm not 'anti-gay' in any way...I mean I was a theatre major in college for crying out loud! I got it. Saw it. Was friends with them. All that and more!
But to me personally, the show targets young kids. From babies to toddlers up to about 5 years old.
At that age, kids have enough things to understand. I mean they are JUST learning to talk! So to try and educate them about what it means to be gay-is another added pressure for parents.
I feel that once kids get old enough (unless they grow up in a homosexual home) then they can learn all about it. At that age, they deal with so much.
I mean, I don't let my child watch Spongebob why should I have to explain THAT to them, ya know?
Without getting UGLY-what are your views?
((I know. Total social faux-pas. NEVER talk about religion, politics, abortion or homosexuality.))
But...thought I'd share.
